How to wear: Flats!

13:07

Flatss are an all year round wardrobe staple, and look good with every outfit.

A cosy outfit of dark jeans, a plaid top (with a plain coloured shirt underneath) and a thick jacket are complemented perfectly by a pair of ankle boots – leather or suede.  Alternative, a light flow-y summer dress teamed with a pair of black strappy sandals adds a 'fun' to the look.

Theres no limits to what shoes you can class as flats - ankle boots, converse, vans, sandals, Toms, long boots, the list is endless.

OUTFIT 1: Casual

This outfit would be perfect to wear on a day to day basis. It can be easily tweaked into a night time outfit.

Day: Wear with simple make up - nude colours and light eyeliner, simple skin (not too much contouring/bronzer), and pale pink/nude pink lips.  To transition into a night time outfit, add a thin belt (and take away the sunglasses), add a heavier eye make up (thicken the eyeliner and smoken the eye) or a hot pink lip). A blazer or a studded leather jacket will help keep the cool out.

OUTFIT 2: Summer festival

This is an outfit perfect for a summer festival, or just for a relaxing summer day. You can swap the halterneck top for a strappy singlet or a loose baggy tee tucked into the shorts if you would prefer.
Shorts: River Island light acid wash high waisted denim shorts, £30
Top: Rag & Bone Daytona Top, US$220
Shoes: TOMS Classic chrochet espadrilles, £42
Necklace: Wet Seal Flower Statement Necklace, $12.50

Nail polish: Chanel Le Vernis nail colour - Frission, US$27
Lipstick: MAC Cremesheen & Pearl lipstick, NZ$24.30

The nail polish/lipstick colour can be interchanged with whatever nude/pink nail polishes/lipsticks you prefer.   This outfit would be perfect with simple skin, and a winged eyeliner.

OUTFIT 3:  Dressed up

Just because you're going out somewhere special or off to a special event, doesn't mean you have to wear some heels. A cute pair of flats or strappy sandals can set the look, just as good as your favourite heels. As long as you feel comfortable, does it matter whether you're wearing heels or not?

This outfit is a versatile outfit, where you can change the accessories if you want, to something you already own, or something cheaper (I fell in love with the bow necklace, and almost cried at the price tag).  You could also pair this with an oversized handbag - you can start the night wearing heels with the flats in your bag, and then when you're feet are getting sore, switch to your sandals.

This naked palette has the most beautiful pink toned nudes that you can use to create smokey eyes very easily - all the shades compliment each other so well.

Dress: Selected sleeveless dress, colour cork, £57.28
Shoes: Tory Burch Lucas Flat sandals, US$285
Necklace: Alex Woo 'Little princess' bow pendant necklace, NZ$967
Bracelets: New Look gold and pink sleek bangle set, £4.99

Lips: NYX Butter lipstick, shade Lollies, US$6.00
Eyes: Urban Decay Naked 3 palette, US$52

OUTFIT 4:  Casual for the cooler climates

Jeans and a jumper are a perfect  winter combination. They're both comfortable and warm. If you do have to go outside and brave the cold, adding a jacked and a scarf will keep you warm, and if it does get warmer outside, you can take the scarf or the jacket off and still have a warm outfit on to brave the cold. Boots like converse, combat boots or Dr. Martens are perfect to keep your toes warm and you can wear thick socks underneath and still be comfortable.

Make up for this look can be kept simple and neutral, or add a bright lipstick for a pop of colour on a dreary day.

Jumper: Ellie Crop Fisherman Jumper, colour Coral, US$26

Coat: Pull&Bear Parker with fur trim, colour beige, £69.99
